The BDS (Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions) Movement is a global campaign that seeks to exert economic and political pressure on Israel in response to its policies towards Palestinians. Founded in 2005 by Palestinian civil society groups, BDS advocates for boycotts of Israeli goods and cultural institutions, divestment from companies complicit in Israeli occupation, and sanctions against the Israeli government. Supporters argue that these measures are nonviolent means to promote justice, equality, and the realization of Palestinian rights. Critics, however, contend that BDS is anti-Semitic and undermines the possibility of a negotiated two-state solution. The movement has sparked intense debate on the ethics of economic activism and the complexities of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
